6-7-08
Fellow ACBFHA Members,
Our Spring Puppy/Derby trial was held at Gator Bay Fox Pen in Effingham, SC on 6-7-08. Our turnout was good but numbers were down due to a death in family, personal illnesses and the last few days of extreme heat and high humidity. Fortunately the heat held off and didn’t cause a problem for our little hounds. They ran like seasoned hounds for the entire 3 hour hunt.
Thanks to Dwight Allen for allowing us to run his pen and for supplying a great group of judges. The point spread for our Puppy Class was 330 to get in and 730 to win and the Derby Class was 455 to get in and 680 to win. Scores like this indicate the game was plentiful, the judges did a great job and our pups and derby hounds worked very hard and were well conditioned.
Thanks to everyone who made an effort to run your hounds in these potentially hot and humid weather conditions. Your dedication to this sport, the association and to your hounds is commendable.
Congratulations to everyone who placed and Special Congratulations to Alvin & Melvin Avins for winning the Puppy Class with A & A Drifter and to Raymon Pitts for winning the Derby Class with Black Creek Hot Rod.
The ACBFHA shirts we ordered at Sugar Hill are in. See Benny Smith if you would like to have yours before our next hunt. Thanks to Brooky Evans for delivering them to us today. They are very nice looking shirts.
Our next hunt will be at the Round O pen in Round O, SC on 9-13-08. We’ll post directions to this pen and additional information in the next few weeks. Keep up the good work with your hounds and we hope everyone has a great summer break.
Until Next Time, Paschal

1-5-08
Fellow ACBFHA Members & Friends,
Our first trial of 2008 was held at Jeff Lucas’ Fox Pen near Bowman, SC on 1-5-08. This hunt was billed as a wide open fast paced event and it was that…and more. The coyotes in this pen are plentiful and huge with exceptional speed and endurance. Many witnessed some rare and exciting events during this hunt. Hounds in pursuit of coyotes across cut bean fields were passed by other coyotes that were not being chased & Coyotes were crossing fields in the opposite direction of coyotes being chased. This was one hunt that will long be remembered by many of us.
Thanks to Jeff Lucas for allowing us to run his pen and providing the outstanding Fried Chicken meal. Thanks also to Jeff and his large team of judges for doing a great job. The point spread for the female class was 685 to get in and 900 to win. The male class was 545 to get in and 1015 to win.

We held our May hunt in the 525-acre pen at Boll-Weevil on 5-12-07. The running was fair and our hounds faired well also considering the warm conditions with only two hounds scratched.
Thanks to Buck Adams and his team of Judges for doing a good job and to Joni & Chellie for always preparing great food for our hungry members. Thanks to Diamond Pet Food & Frank Hill for supplying us with the 24/20 High Energy Dog Food, again. 4-30-07
Fellow ACBFHA Members,
Our Puppy Hunt on 4-29-07 was very engaging for our members and spectators and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. The entertainment at the gallery was great, as always, as we listened to new and old jokes and viewed a few crossings. The running wasn’t as good as we would have preferred but our Pup’s worked very hard and remained busy for the entire hunt. We normally run a Derby Class with our Puppy’s but elected not to do it this time and it really tested the limited skills of some of our Pup’s.
Sherman Booth joined our association today and brought along a couple of his friends from Rocky Mount, N C. Hope Sherman and his buddies enjoyed themselves as much as we did and return soon.
Thanks to all for coming out and participating and congratulations to everyone who placed Pup’s. A special congratulations to Scot & Paschal Hoffman for winning the hunt with Back Forty Super Girl.
Thanks to Buck Adams and his fine team of Judges for doing a good job and to Shelley and Scot for taking pictures. Thanks to Raymon Pitts for conducting our 50/50 drawing and a fine job fulfilling our President’s duties in his absence. Thanks also to Don, Wes & W.E. for their consideration in assuring we were hungry enough for a big Breakfast when they returned with it from our nearby truck stop.
Our next trial will be on 5-12-07 at Boll-Weevil. We’ll cast at daylight, as usual. This should be around 0630 or a little before.
Until Next Time, Paschal
4-14-07
Fellow ACBFHA Members,
Our April trial was held in the 525-acre Boll-Weevil pen in Patrick, SC on 4-14-07 and the running was fair. We cast our hounds at 0655 and the running was immediate but fell off periodically throughout the day. The obvious scent condition problem hampered our little hounds some but didn’t prevent our members from having a great time. This was one of our more entertaining hunts of the year…thanks to some of our very comical members.
Many children were in attendance and entertained themselves thoroughly while playing with the pups and digging in our sand on the banks outside the pen. It’s amazing what children can do with a bucket, a little water and something as simple as clean white sand.
We would like to welcome Billy Thomas to our great sport and association. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Thanks to Buck Adams and his team of judges for a fine job and to Joni and Chellie for preparing those great meals. Thanks to everyone for coming out and participating and a Special Thanks to Frank Hill and Diamond Pet Food for donating several bags of 24/20 High Energy Diamond.
Congratulations to everyone who placed hounds. A special congratulations to W.E. & Shelley Marshall for winning the Female Class with Back Forty Pushup and the Best Mouth award with Back Forty Homewrecker and to Don Christmas for winning the Male Class with Outwest Slick Willie G. A Special Congratulations also to Freddie Brand for winning the Classiest Hound award with Brand’s Red Gal and to Mr. Raymon Pitts for winning the Champions Class with (FC) Back Forty Dip Stick. (FC) Back Forty Top Rose earned points needed to qualify her for Field Champion at this hunt also. Congratulations to Paschal & Scot Hoffman.
Thanks very much to Wes Collins and Michael Wright for performing our hunt entry duties, to Wes for handling our Calcutta, to Shelley Marshall for her camera work and to Raymon Pitts for our 50/50 drawing and acting as President in Joe's absence.
Our next hunt will be our Annual Spring Puppy Hunt on Sunday 4-29-07. Pup hunts are 3 hours with entry fee of $10 per pup. This puppy hunt will be for pups born in April 06 or after. Need to have your AKC papers available also. Our May hunt will be 5-12-07 at Boll-Weevil. Cast time will be at daybreak, as always.
Until Next Time,
Paschal

3-10-07
Fellow ACBFHA Members,
Our March trial was held in the 165-acre Boll-Weevil pen in Patrick SC on 3-10-07 and the running was awesome. We cast our hounds at 0650 and the running was wall to wall for four hours plus. These little hounds really put on a show and seemed to thoroughly enjoy running this small pen. Buck has done a fabulous job in stocking and conditioning the game in these pens.
We would like to thank Pete Knott and Jay Bushee of Virginia for joining us in this hunt. We’re all very sorry for Pete in the loss of his Hottrack Red Lazer hound. This hound is one of Pete’s favorites and was a very fine hound. It’s always a mystery at how perfectly healthy hounds expire or disappear for no apparent reason.
Thanks to Buck Adams and his team of judges for doing a fine job and to Joni and Chellie for always preparing those great vittles. Thanks to everyone for coming out and participating. Thanks also to Frank Hill/Diamond Pet Food and Kirk Whitman/Sportmix for donating their fine products for our hunt.

Our next hunt will be on 4-14-07 at Boll-Weevil. Cast time will be at daybreak, as always.
Until Next Time,
